The oldest trophy in international sport today, the America’s Cup is awarded to the winner of the America’s Cup match races between sailing yachts. One yacht, known as the defender represents the yacht club that holds the cup. The second yacht is known as the challenger that represents the yacht club challenging the defender for the cup.

This year the America’s Cup race takes place in San Francisco, from August 17th to September 21st, where the defending Golden Gate Yacht Club will take on first time challenger’s and participants in the America’s Cup, the Royal Swedish Yacht Club. Two AC72 wing sail catamarans will be raced in the competition.
