Dunbar House, 1880

Surrounded by towering elms like those that line the streets of historic Murphys, the Dunbar House offers privacy, comfort and casual elegance. This restored Italianate home, built in 1880 by one of California’s early business magnates, provides one of the finest country inn experiences in California’s Gold Country. The innkeepers offer sumptuous afternoon appetizers with handcrafted local wine. Breakfasts, graced with edible flowers, are an experience themselves and can be enjoyed in the dining room by the fire, in the gardens, or in the privacy of guest rooms. The century-old gardens are beautiful, featuring heirloom roses and fountains.
