Portland's White House

Remarkably similar to the D.C. landmark, the magnificent 1911 Portland’s White House is reason enough to visit the city’s Northeast Historic Irvington District. The former summer home of lumber baron Robert Lytle has been exquisitely restored by innkeepers Lanning Blanks and Steve Holden. Sparkling European chandeliers, formal dining room, Grand Ballroom, grand staircase, leaded glass windows, gilt-gold ceilings, and trompe l’oeil are only the beginning: the White House features extensive collections of porcelains, 18th and 19th century oils, and a beautiful garden courtyard. A visit here is a visit to the elegance and high style of 100 years ago but with today’s relaxed conviviality.

Laguna Beach, CA:

We were doing a whirlwind trip of Oregon and stayed at the Campbell House in Eugene. We asked them for a recommendation in Portland and they told us to call Portland's White House. WOW, we were so happy we did!! Lanning - one of the Hosts of the White House made us feel like VIPs. The accommodations were luscious (majestic entry way, dining and sitting areas, antiques, featherbeds, linens & clawfoot bath tubs) and the conversation entertaining. We wanted to eat at a restaurant we had read about in Sunset. Lanning picked up the phone and got us in even though they were booked. We have already recommended this place to people we know are going to Portland. The experience is one you will remember and feel grateful for!
