Arrive, smell the Pacific. Watch the sunset over the ocean from your deck and then sit down in front of your fire listening to the crackle of the burning wood. Come down to dinner, and enjoy outstanding cuisine at the inn's nationally acclaimed vegetarian restaurant. After dinner, select a romantic comedy from the extensive video collection to share.

The next day, after breakfast, take a canoe or kayak and explore California's longest undeveloped estuary now part of the State's newest park. The river's solitude is punctuated by cries of osprey, the rustle of deer moving through the forest canyon, and ducks taking flight. Watch for the harbor seal that usually follows paddlers. After, relax in the hot tub followed by a massage. Once you have recovered from so much relaxation, take some time to walk along the bluffs over Mendocino Bay. Come for an early dinner then return to your room just to be with one another.

The next day, after a gourmet breakfast, explore the village's many galleries and visit the Art Center. Later borrow a bike and ride along one of the logging roads now incorporated in the new Big River State Park. Return to the inn and enjoy time with other guests for dessert samplings or if you rather, in the quiet of your room.

This Month's Recipe: "Perfect Norwegian Potato Lefse"

This popular Shelburne Inn recipe is collaboration  of innkeeper Laurie Anderson and a friend, who used to make Lefse together. On one occasion Laurie paid meticulous attention to every step of the production and wrote the recipe down. The lefse was perfect! The Inn serves it buttered with sugar, cinnamon or cranberry sauce rolled inside.
