Date and Pear Quick Bread

From Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake, California

Inspired by the abundance of pears available at orchards near the Tallman Hotel, they created this delicious, semi-sweet bread that can be enjoyed any time of the day.

Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup light brown sugar
2 tsp baking powder
3 tablespoons of butter
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
3/4 cup chopped dates
2 pears, peeled, cored and diced into 1/4 inch pieces

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Lightly butter and flour loaf pan.
  • Mix dry ingredients.
  • Melt the butter and allow to cool.
  • In a small bowl, whisk butter and egg until blended.
  • Add milk and vanilla to mixture wet mixture.
  • Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients.
  • Carefully fold in the remaining ingredients and mix well to combine.
  • Spread evenly in pan.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes.
  • Let cool completely before serving.
